I do and many people do use multiple monitors with single computer. This helps in using multiple windows at the same time and makes the work faster.

But do you use multiple computers ( not monitors ) at the same time?? Many users do have a desktop and laptop at home. Or personal laptop and office laptop. Have you ever tried using them parallel? Is that possible???

YES, you can use all your systems at the same time without needing to shift towards a computer whenever something has to done on that. Share your keyboard and mouse with all the computers and  use as with multiple displays.

Application, Synergy makes it possible to have this.

Synergy brings your devices together in one cohesive experience.

  • Seamlessly move your mouse to any computer and start typing.
  • Works on all major operating systems (Windows, Mac OS X, and Linux).
  • Share your clipboard (copy and paste) between your computers.
  • Drag and drop files from one computer to another (Premium).
  • Encryption keeps sensitive data safe on public networks.
  • Network-based (IP) software KVM switch (non-video).

After spending a lot of time and research in internet on bluetooth peripheral device driver, I found this post which was very useful and answered all the questions. Filtered content of the same post is added here.

This is How to Resolve the “Bluetooth Peripheral Device Doesn’t Have a Driver:”
This guide will be most useful for those with similar hardware configurations… and for those who have tried all the other nonsense to no avail.  Especially that oft-repeated “Just install Windows Mobile Device Manager.”

Step 1: Ignore 99% of what you think you’ve learned about this problem.

It will *most likely* boil down to a missing COM port.
Step 2: Definitely ignore the bit about installing the Windows Mobile Device Center
(Unless you have a Windows Mobile-based phone and/or have some other use for a Windows 7 flavor of Activesync.)
Step 3: Stop looking for a driver for something named a “Bluetooth Peripheral Device.”
There ain’t no such thing. If you watch the Bluetooth installation unfold, you’ll notice that all the components of Bluetooth start out as “Bluetooth Peripheral Device,” and then once Windows IDs each item, the appropriate driver is installed and the name changes from “Bluetooth Peripheral Device” to something like “Bluetooth Hands-free Audio” or “Bluetooth Remote Control” etc.
— — —
Unfortunately, most people reading this will have attempted one or more of the following:
1.) Installing that stupid Windows Mobile Device Center
2.) Installing any number of who-knows-what Bluetooth drivers from who-knows-where
3.) Running all sorts of third-party driver utilities
4.) Forcing various driver installations to run in Vista, XP, or Win98 mode
5.) Sacrificing countless animals
The end result is a plethora of totally unnecessary software and/or driver installations and/or updates… and a few dead animals.

With each machine I connected the following headsets: a Plantronics Voyager Legend, Motorola S9, Motorola S805 and Matrix AF62 as well as one Samsung S3 and one HTC Android.

1.) If you have done any of the fruitless steps mentioned above, get into control panel and delete everything you installed.  Kill any Broadcomm or Widcomm bluetooth entries. Delete any 3rd-party driver maintenance apps. Reboot to a clean machine.
2.) Locate and install any latest driver for the adapter depending on the vendor (like Broadcom)
3.) As you install one of the above drivers, you’ll see a notification regarding the installation of the various components.  Click on that pop-up and watch the progression.  You’ll see that each “Bluetooth Peripheral Device” gets a new name as the related driver is installed.  In my dozen+ tests, each & every item at this stage got the green checkmark of success.
4.) NOW attempt to pair the device of your choosing.  If that manufacturer provides separate drivers, do not install them yet, regardless of their instructions.  See how far Windows gets on its own.
5.) As soon as the pairing begins, you’ll see more notifications regarding the individual driver components.  Click on one of these and watch a similar progression… EXCEPT that you will have one “Bluetooth Peripheral Device” with the dreaded Red X and the complaint that no driver was found.
6.) Do not despair! This will happen the first time you pair any new Bluetooth device.
7.) Wait for the installation to complete.  Despite the dialog showing the list of Bluetooth components with the one red X, you probably have another window saying that the Bluetooth device paired perfectly.  But you and I know it didn’t. Confidently click to close that dialog.
8.) Go to Device Manager (through Control Panel, Computer properties) and you’ll spot that cursed Bluetooth Peripheral Device that is sitting there in the middle under “Other Devices.”
9.) Right-click on the Bluetooth Peripheral Device under “Other Devices” and choose “Update Driver” — then:
  Click on:
a.) Browse my computer for driver Software
b.) Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer
c.) In the list of Common hardware types, choose:
        —>>>>   Ports (COM & LPT)  <<<<—
  d.) Under Manufacturer, choose Microsoft
e.) Under Model, choose “Standard Serial over Bluetooth Link” & click ‘Next’
f.)  When prompted with the Update Driver Warning, click ‘Yes’
g.) Joyfully read the message that “Windows has successfully updated your driver software”
h.) Read it again for the fun of it and click ‘Close’
i.) To confirm that this mess is really fixed (assuming compatible hardware, etc.) Right-click on the Bluetooth device and choose “Troubleshoot” — there should be no problems reported.
10.) You should not have to reboot, but you MIGHT need to cycle the power of your Bluetooth device Off & Back on to let it reconnect again (NOT re-Pair… just re-Connect). Out of a dozen tests, I only had to do this once, and that was with a 3-year-old-Bluetooth headset.

Password Required (Delay)

Screen gets locked after the inactive delay and you have enter the password again to unlock. Or if something does not respond, tendency is to press the power/lock button and see if it is responding. Good way is to lock the  screen after inactive delay and prompt for the password after some period instead of asking each time when the screen is locked. Goto Settings -> Lock Screen -> Lock Screen -> Password Required -> Select the delay(Immediately, 1 min, 2 min, …)

App Lock

Individual applications can be locked without the need of any third party application.

  • Goto the path Settings -> Privacy -> Privacy settings
  • set the Password
  • enable Lock individual apps
  • Choose apps to lock and select the app to be locked

Now opening the locked app requires password which you had set. App lock password is different from the phone password.

Guest mode

Enable the guest mode which hides messages, notes, pictures and incoming calls so that others cant see when you are giving your phone to friends or someone. Guest mode can be enabled by toggling the icon guestmode in notification screen or follow Settings -> Privacy -> Privacy settings -> Guest mode

Using Torch without unlocking the phone

Torch can be powered on w/o unlocking the phone in either of the below ways. Press and hold the Home button when the screen is locked, torch will be on and will be turned off after few seconds. To keep Torch on, press Power button. To turn off, press the power button again.

Slide the notification screen from top and toggle the Torch icon.

Press Menu and Volume Down button simultaneously to take a screen shot

Capture notification once the screenshot is taken. These are stored under DCIM/Screenshots

Make swipe down gesture anywhere on the screen to pull down the Notification screen

No need to pull from the top of screen to open the notification screen, just a swipe down gesture anywhere on the screen pulls down the notification screen. Same applies for left to right or right to left directions to scroll across the screens.

Show additional info on status bar – connection speed, service provider name

Additional info can be displayed on status bar by toggling the settings @ Setting -> Notifications

  • notification icon – show the app icon in status bar which has a notification
  • connection speed – show the network connection speed
  • service provider  – show the service provider name

Multiple user can login to Windows Server using rdp but Desktop edition allows only one active user session. To have multiple RDP sessions in Desktop edition, server version of termserv.dll is required. So by patching termsrv.dll, multiple concurrent sessions can be enabled.

Peter Kleissner has written and published a little utility which does all the job automatically. In case original source becomes unavailable, you can download version 1.8 from mysysadmintips. If you are not keen on running unknown executables on your machine, source code is also available.

termserv.dll can be edited using any hex editor to enable concurrent sessions as described here.

Linux machine can be setup as gateway to allow the machines which are present in local network to communicate with external machines/internet.

Linux machine should have atleast two network interfaces, say eth0 – connected to internet, eth1 – connected to local LAN.

1. Enable IP forwarding

echo 1 > /proc/sys/net/ipv4/ip_forward

2. Run the following commands ( assuming as the subnet of LAN. )

iptables –table nat –append POSTROUTING –out-interface eth0 -j MASQUERADE
iptables –append FORWARD –in-interface eth1 -j ACCEPT
iptables -I FORWARD 1 -s -j ACCEPT
iptables -I FORWARD 1 -d -j ACCEPT

You are done….

I am using static IP addresses here. If you need to use DHCP, you have to setup DHCP server also.

How to Get Xiaomi Mi phone?

Posted: September 9, 2014 in Uncategorized
  • Register for the sale here Mi3 , Redmi 1S .
  • Login to Flipkart at least 15 mins early.
  • Click on the Buy Now button before you see it. Yes, you have to click on the button even before it appears. Buy Now button appears just above the counter where the message sale starts in is seen. So start clicking at this place even before the counter expires.

Just install the plugin from buy-hatke and relax which will do the remaining work for you. The plugin will try its best to ensure the phone is added to your Cart which is sufficient for getting an Mi…

Note: The plugin works only in chrome browser. Make sure the system time is correct as the timer depends on the system time.

Enjoy 🙂

My laptop displays goes off for two or three seconds and comes back when the charger is connected or removed. I googled a lot on but did not find the solution. This was not a problem with hardware/driver because it was not happening when the laptop was installed but started occurring later. I have installed many themes and personalization applications like rainmeter and power settings were changed left and right. So I thought one of this could have caused the issue. I changed few settings manually but finally Restoring the power options to default settings solved the problem.
